Zabava (Dinner & Dance)

Barvinok dancers perform throughout the year at several events. The family-favourite event of the year is our annual Dinner & Dance (Zabava), held the first Saturday of February.

Pictured below, this event is a celebration of our Ukrainian dancing community and features a traditional Ukrainian dinner, dance performances by our students, a live Ukrainian band, silent auction and 50/50 raffle.

The highlight of the evening is the kolomeyka where our dancers and their guests show off their dance moves.

Festivals

Spring is defined by our festival season.

In March we are proud to participate in the Southern Alberta Ukrainian Dance Festival in Calgary, Alberta…

Next we travel with our senior and adult classes in May (Mother’s Day weekend, annually) to compete in the Cheremosh Ukrainian Dance Festival in St. Albert, Alberta…

and we finish at The Calgary Ukrainian Festival the first weekend in June.

Vision of Dance

Every May, we share our accomplishments at our year end concert, which showcases the growth and development of our dancers. Family and friends join us at the University Theatre to share in our Vision of Dance.

Join us for Vision of Dance by purchasing tickets in advance at the theatre’s box office as tickets are not available at the door. General seating.

Many parents follow the tradition of giving their performers flowers or a treat when they meet in the lobby after the show.
