Thursday, September 7 Placement classes for Beg/Inter/Sr dancers. Register here before attending. Everyone is welcome to join our Calgary Ukrainian dance community, even if you have never danced before. Used shoe sale in lobby from 5:30 -9:00 PM (cash only). If you have shoes you would like to sell, please bring them.

Sunday, September 10 First Adult dance class of the season, 7:00 PM – 8:30 PM. Register here before attending.

Thursday, September 14 First class for Pre-Beginners, 5:30 PM – 6:00 PM. Register here before attending.

Thursday, September 21 Used shoe sale in the lobby, 6:00 PM-8:00 PM (cash only). If you have used shoes you would like to sell, please bring them.

Thursday, September 28 Barvinok 101 parent meeting for new families 6:30 PM – 7:00 PM. Fall General Meeting 7:00 PM – 8:00 PM – all parents encouraged to attend. Both meetings in the lobby at St. Vlad’s.

Sunday, October 8 No Adult class. Moved to 7:00 PM – 8:30 PM Monday, October 9.

Friday, October 20 Senior 3 dance class performance at the Calgary Bridge Foundation for Youth Achievement Awards Gala. 8:00 PM performance. Venue: Empire Banquet Hall

Saturday, November 4 Workshop for all Senior classes from 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM at St. Vlad’s.

Thursday, November 9 Wine Raffle tickets distributed during classes (10 per family, instruction letter included). Board Meeting 6:45 PM – 8:00 PM at St. Vlad’s.

Monday, November 13 November Newsletter emailed with information about volunteer hours required for the 2023-24 season. Sign up early for volunteer shifts so you can find dates and times that work best for you.

Wednesday, November 15 Email sent to to Senior/Adult dance classes competing in the Cheremosh Ukrainian Dance Festival hotel reservation information including a group booking code with a discounted rate. The last day to get the group rate is April 8, 2024. Make your reservation early as this hotel is the closest to the theatre and will sell out.

Thursday, November 16 Fundraising Director and Vice President stationed in lobby at St. Vlad’s to collect Wine Raffle ballots and unsold tickets. Ballots and unsold tickets are due by Nov. 23 at 7:15 PM at the latest.

Wednesday, November 22 E-transfers for wine raffle ticket funds raised due by Nov. 22 at the latest. Please see letter sent home with your child’s tickets and email sent Nov. 21 for instructions.

Friday, December 8 Apparel order deadline for pick up before Christmas. Pre-winter break distribution will be Thu Dec. 14 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM in the lobby of St. Vlad’s. Order HERE.

Saturday, December 9 at 8:00 PMPerogy orders are due by email to the fundraising coordinator and payments are due by e-transfer to the Treasurer. Please see our Nov 25 email for detailed instructions and order forms.

Thursday, December 14 from 7:30 PM – 9:00 PM Frozen perogy order pick up for sellers at St. Vlad’s. Bring coolers! All orders must be collected. Please make arrangements for someone to pick up your orders if you cannot attend. 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM Apparel Order pick up for orders placed by Dec. 8. Orders placed Dec. 9 – Jan. 4 can be picked up Jan. 11 & 18 from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM. Last Pre-Beginner/ Beginner/ Intermediate dance classes before Christmas. Treats will be given to all the children and youth after classes as a gift from the school. Merry Christmas!

Monday, January 1 – Friday, January 12 Online ticket sales for Zabava Dinner & Dance. Sign in to our Dancer Portal (password is in our December Newsletter, emailed to families Dec. 7) to access the ticket order form. You can also print Silent Auction Donation Instructions and Forms from the portal (Click on the Forms and Fundraising Materials link, then proceed to the Dinner & Dance Silent Auction folder). 1 item per family is required and a Donor Form is required for each item. The password for the dancer portal was included in your December 7th Newsletter

Monday, January 8 Senior Monday night dance class resumes.

Thursday, January 11 All Pre-Beginner, Beginner, Intermediate and Senior Thursday night dance classes resume. Used shoe sale (cash only), apparel and ticket pick up (for ticket orders we have received full payment for only) and Silent Auction Donation Drop-Off in lobby of St. Vlad’s for Zabava Dinner & Dance, 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM. If you have shoes you would like to sell, please bring them. Note: Adult dance class members can pick up their apparel Jan. 14 & 21 and tickets Jan. 21 & 28 in class.

Saturday, January 13 Trevor’s senior class performing at Suzirya Ukrainian Dance Theatre’s Malanka. Location: Polish Canadian Centre. Dancers should arrive by 7:30 PM at the latest. Suzirya welcomes class members and their parents to stay for the kolomeyka. Dancers and parents staying for the kolomeyka should dress in business professional/semi-formal attire for this event (no jeans, sweats, yoga pants, shorts, t-shirts). Further details can be found in our January 2 email to the parents of Trevor’s senior class members. This is a sold-out event.

Wednesday, January 17 (extended from Jan 12) Deadline to order Zabava Dinner & Dance tickets and transfer payments to treasurer@barvinok.ca. Please use the e-transfer password provided in our email re: Dinner & Dance ticket orders and indicate your dancer’s name(s) in the notes. Families who missed the Jan 12 deadline have received email and text reminders.

Thursday, January 18 Dance will be at a different location due to St. Vlad’s church event. Trail Racquetball Courts on Edmonton Trail (409-9th Avenue NE) | Last day to pick up apparel (tentative due to a delay), drop off Silent Auction donations and pick up tickets for Zabava Dinner & Dance, 6:00 PM- 9:00 PM. Note: Adult dance class members can pick up their apparel Jan. 21 and tickets Jan. 21 & 28 in class.

Sunday, January 21 Zabava Dinner & Dance ticket pick up for Adult dance class members during class. Apparel pick up for Adults postponed to January 28. Deadline for Senior Dance families to complete the Google Form indicating availability to perform at Bravo! on Saturday March 2, 2024- please see your Jan 19 email for the link to the form.

Friday, February 2 Please check your inbox for an important email for important information every family needs to know to be ready for Dinner & Dance. There are instructions for arrival times and costuming for each class. Parents of dancers in the Sadochok after school dance class will receive this information by email from the preschool directly. In the Dancer Portal you can find helpful resources like checklists for costuming, hair and makeup.

Saturday, February 3 Zabava Dinner & Dance. Dancers arrive at 5:00 PM. Doors open for ticket holders at 5:30 PM. No early admission permitted except for designated volunteers. Location: Thorncliffe Greenview Community Association.

Thursday, February 8 Board Meeting 6:45 PM – 8:00 PM at St. Vlad’s. WE NEED YOUR HELP! Fulfill your volunteer commitment for your entire family for the year: become our Volunteer Coordinator or AGLC / Casino Chairperson! The majority of the responsibilities of either position can be managed on your own schedule.

Today is a Great Day to Sign Up to Volunteer at SAUDF!

Volunteers are urgently needed for SAUDF. 33 volunteers are essential to the facilitation of the festival in various ways. Please sign up for a volunteer position here.

Saturday, March 2 Senior dance class performing at BRAVO! Exact arrival times TBA, so please block off your dancer’s afternoon for technical rehearsal and evening for the concert. This production is a fundraiser to support displaced Ukrainians in Alberta. Since it’s inception, Vykrutas has raised over $22,000 to support Ukrainians experiencing the effects of Russia’s war. Tickets can be purchased directly from the University Theater Box Office.

Today is a Great Day to Sign Up to Volunteer at Our Casino Event!

Volunteers must be over 18 years old. *Key positions require an AGLC Volunteer Worker form to be filled out. Volunteers in these roles cannot have a criminal record. Sign up for a casino shift HERE. Please consider reaching out to your network to help us cover this important event.

Thursday, March 7 Used shoe sale (cash only) in lobby of St. Vlad’s, 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM (cash only). If you have shoes you would like us to sell, please bring them. You can check out our used shoe inventory in our Dancer Portal. The password was sent to you with our December Newsletter. This will be our last used shoe sale until fall!

Saturday, March 16 Southern Alberta Ukrainian Dance Festival (SAUDF) at Webber Academy. Schedule TBA. Click here to volunteer at SAUDF.

Sunday, March 31 No Adult dance class.

Monday, April 8 Senior and Adult class members only: This is the deadline to take advantage of our special discounted group rate for our hotel needed for the Cheremosh Ukrainian Dance Festival in St. Albert from May 9-12. Please refer to the email Barvinok sent to you on Nov. 15 for booking instructions. Please note rooms are available on a first-come basis and early reservations were recommended as this hotel sells out.

Sunday, April 14 & Monday, April 15 Casino Fundraiser at Elbow River Casino. We are looking for volunteers to cover a variety of shifts! Must be 18 years or older: parents, dancers and friends/family of dancers can sign up for a volunteer shift here! A free meal is included at every shift.

Thursday, May 9 – Sunday, May 12 Senior and Adult dance classes compete in the Cheremosh Ukrainian Dance Festival in St. Albert. Venue: The Arden Theatre. Schedule TBD. Be sure to arrive at the theatre early to find parking as it is limited. Please see the email sent to Senior/Adult classes on Nov. 15/23 regarding a group hotel booking at a special rate. The last day to get the group rate is April 8, 2024. Reserve your room early- this hotel sells out.

Thursday, May 16 Dress Rehearsal at St. Vlad’s. Sign up here to volunteer at Dress Rehearesal & Year End Concert (May 26).

Sunday, May 19 No Adult dance class.

Monday, May 20 No Senior dance class.

Sunday, May 26 Technical Rehearsal (afternoon) and Year End Concert (evening) at the University Theatre. Tickets must be purchased before the event from the theatre’s online box office. Sign up here to volunteer at Dress Rehearsal (May 16) and Year End Concert. We recommend volunteers who will be helping at tech rehearsal and attending the concert later in the evening park in the Arts Parkade and pay the daily rate as this costs less than paying to park hourly in nearby surface lots.

Monday, May 27 Last Monday night Senior dance class of the season.

Thursday, May 30 Last Thursday night Pre-Beginner/Beginner/Intermediate/Senior dance class of the year.

Saturday, June 1 & Sunday, June 2 All classes perform at the Calgary Ukrainian Festival (CUF). Schedule TBA. Venue: Acadia Recreation Complex. Sign up here to volunteer at CUF. This festival has grown and parking can be difficult. Arrive early to find parking at the Rec Complex or the Lord Beaverbrook High School parking lot next door.
