Dinner & Dance (Zabava) Silent Auction
What is a Zabava?
Zabava: The origin of the word Zabava means “fun” or “amusement.” It has come to mean “a party with music and dancing” in Eastern European culture.
The Silent Auction at Dinner & Dance (Zabava) takes place the first Saturday in February and is a fundraising opportunity for the school.
Every year our families reach out to potential donors. Donations that are sponsored by a business or individual will have their names and information prominently displayed.
Sponsorship from foundations, organizations and partnerships keep our tuition financially accessible and help us meet our objective to support arts and culture in Calgary. Barvinok Ukrainian Dance Society does not operate as a for-profit dance school. We are a cultural dance society.
This event is an all-ages celebration of our Ukrainian dancing community and features a traditional Ukrainian dinner, dance performances by our students, a live Ukrainian band, Silent Auction and 50/50 raffle. The highlight of the evening is the kolomeyka where our dancers and their guests show off their best moves!
